Check Availability

Mawio sits facing the rising sun on the edge of the wilderness zone in Tarangire National Park, the most remote accommodation within the park itself. Thanks to its east-facing position, the camp affords a spectacular start to each day, with a procession of wildlife meandering in front of camp as the first light catches the plains.

Far from the main safari circuit, Mawio offers seclusion, sweeping views and a truly wild setting. Its flexible layout of ten ensuite tents is designed to host either one large group or be split into two fully private camps, each with its own mess and facilities, ensuring complete exclusivity and privacy at all times.

Amenities

Living Spaces

The main mess and lounge tents are the social heart of camp, offering peaceful, considered spaces between game drives, with uninterrupted views across the plains. Comfortable seating, soft furnishings and curated detailing give the camp the warmth of a private retreat in the wildest of settings.

Bedrooms & Laundry

Ten generously sized safari tents, each fully ensuite, with quality linens, soft lamplight and the gentle canvas walls that have defined African safaris for a century. The two family tents are configured for shared use, ideal for families travelling with children or older companions. Laundry service is included as part of the camp's full hospitality offering.

Kitchen & Dining

Meals are prepared by the resident chef and served in the main dining tent or al fresco beneath the acacias. Bush breakfasts, sundowner stops and private dining experiences out on the plains can be arranged on request. Menus celebrate fresh, considered cooking in the wildest of settings, with dietary requirements happily accommodated.

Bathrooms

Every tent features its own ensuite bathroom, fitted with quality fixtures, plush towelling and the considered details that distinguish a true safari camp.

Entertainment

The plains themselves are the camp's greatest entertainment, with wildlife visible from the verandas and the main mess tent. Evenings centre on the fire pit beneath one of Africa's clearest night skies. For the more adventurous, star bed camping and small fly-camp overnight sleep-outs can be arranged.

Heating & Cooling

Tents are designed for the climate of the Tarangire region, with canvas construction, mesh windows and natural ventilation. Hot water bottles and warm blankets are provided for cooler nights.

Internet & Office

Wi-Fi available in the main areas, allowing guests to stay in touch when needed. The camp's remote setting is designed for genuine disconnection.

Location Features

Set on the edge of Tarangire's wilderness zone, far from the main safari circuit, Mawio is the most remote accommodation within the park. The east-facing position delivers a daily theatre of sunrises, with elephant and buffalo herds often passing in front of camp in the early light. Far-reaching views, untouched bush and the rhythms of a genuinely wild place.

Outdoor Spaces

Open verandas in front of each tent invite long, slow afternoons watching the plains. A central fire pit anchors the camp after dark, with sundowner spots positioned to make the most of the spectacular Tarangire skies.

Parking

Open 4WD safari vehicles are based at camp throughout your stay.
